Sneh “Sunny” Thakkar was born & brought up in Gujarat, India. He has been musically inclined from a very young age & studied tabla for a few years. After moving to New York, he continued his musical interests & other cultural activities. He also played lead roles in off-Broadway plays including Mughal-E-Azam & Amir Khusro.
He works full-time as a Radiation Therapist treating cancer patients & also earned his MBA in Health Care Management. He has served on the Board of Directors of New York Public Interest Research Group, on the Advisory Board of a non-profit consortium The ARCH, that promoted Indian culture and arts in NYC. Sunny’s love for Indian classical music & dance has led him to promote and present numerous concerts in New York City. He has been working individually & with local organizations to present various Indian classical music legends & young artists. He has worked closely with organizations including Robert Browning Associates, Harrice Miller Entertainment, HarmoNYom, Chhandayan, Navatman, The Rubin Museum of Arts, Indo- American Arts Council, Raga Music Circle, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, SurSangeet, Vedic Heritage, Ustad Vilayat Khan Foundation, The World Music Institute, SangeetSabha, South Asian Music & Arts Association (SAMAA), The Town Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall & Asia Society to help with the promotion of Indian classical music. Sunny has also presented concerts at some of the most prestigious venues in NYC including the Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall & the Stanley Kaplan Penthouse at the Lincoln Center of Performing Arts.
Sunny was awarded a citation from the Council of the City of New York for his efforts in promoting Indian culture & arts in New York. Sunny was appointed the Alumni Ambassador of St. Joseph’s College in December of 2014. He serves on the Executive Board of Gerontology Professionals of Long Island (GPLI), a networking and educational organization for professionals that serve the aging population on Long Island. He was asked to serve on the Radiation Oncology Safety Stakeholders Initiative by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists in 2017. He is a member of the Healthcare Executives Club & also serves on Executive Committee. He is also very honored to serve as the Executive Member of the Indian American Forum. He continues to play a key role as an adviser to a group of non-profit organizations both in the United States & India. Sunny plans to continue his efforts to promote Indian Classical music & arts all over the Tristate area & beyond.
