Gurdeep Kaur Singh, better known as Shammi, is first and foremost a supportive wife, an inspirational mother, and a doting grandmother. She takes immense pride in her three children and five grandchildren. All of her children have been taught to live life fearlessly, embrace challenges, and give back to society from where they have been able to achieve their goals and realize successes. With her husband’s unrelenting encouragement, Shammi has imparted these virtues on to her children through her personal experiences in giving back the community that has given her so much. Her profound passion for humanitarian and social causes was cultivated by the values with which she was raised. Shammi attributes her compassionate and benevolent nature as an epitome of her venerable father. Shammi’s embedded admiration of, and immense appreciation for her father’s altruistic outlook on life and the advocacy and confidence she received from her husband and in-laws, has fostered over thirty years of continued devotion to a host of charitable causes, community work, and philanthropy. Working as a volunteer at battered women’s shelters on Long Island and Queens; as the past president and active board member of organizations like The Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Foundation; and holding a seat on The Board of Nassau Community College are only a few facets from her repertoire that have established Shammi as an ardent voice within our community.
