Indu Jaiswal is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Kartar Singh Rihal, from New Delhi, India. She finished high school form Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan and graduated from University of Delhi, Major in nutrition and science. In 1972, she got married to Sudhir Jaiswal, form Calcutta and migrated to USA in January, 1973. She completed her studies in Nutrition from Queens College and CW Post University, NY. She started working as a Therapeutic Dietitian in Stouffer’s Division of Food Service. Currently Indu is Director of Nutrition Services at Promenade Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Rockaway Park, New York. Indu is also working in private practice as Registered Dietitian/ Certified Nutritionist at Arya Gastroenterology and Madonna Heights School of SCO Services helping adolescent girls, women and families.
She began her public service in New Delhi. Indu was involved in fund raising efforts for the Jawans during war in 1965. Indu collected significant amount of money and made a donation to Mrs. Indira Gandhi in New Delhi. Indu started her community services and involvements with Welcome Wagon Club in Garden City, New York
At present she is the chairperson of Indian American Forum Inc. in Long Island. Indu has also started Indian Senior Citizen programs at Bethpage Senior Community Center in Long Island, NY.
Indu organized and helped in coordination of tour in USA for children’s with special needs and disabilities from AMAR JYOTI school in New Delhi, India
Indu started the Indian American Night at Eisenhower Park. East Meadow NY This program is part of summer concert series sponsored by Nassau County department of Parks and recreation
In the year 2008 Indu also started the first Kite Festival to be held at Eisenhower Park in Long Island.
In the year 2002 Indu started the First India Republic Day Celebration and Flag raising ceremony to commemorate India Republic Day Celebration in Town Hall of Town of Hempstead, Long Island, and the Largest Town in USA.
Indu participates actively in celebrating Indian Independence Day in Nassau County Legislature building.
Indu also helps in organizing Diwali celebration in the town of North Hempstead and Nassau County Legislature.
Indu has also started Festival of India and International Children’s Day at Elmont Memorial Library encouraging children from all the countries to participate in Cultural programs and Essay writing competitions.
She has served as the president of India Association of long Island and also Secretary for Federation of Indian Associations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Indu is the first Indian woman who got appointed to the Nassau County Youth Board
CONGRESS WOMAN CAROLYN MCCARTHY HAS NAMED INDU JAISWAL AS THE CITIZEN OF THE MONTH IN THE FOURTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT FOR AUGUST 2000, AND IS A PERMANENT CONGRESSIONAL RECORD IN WASHINGTON
She serves on the board of several organizations like Stony Brook Center for India studies, member of Long Island Arts Council at Freeport, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Dietetic Association, Long Island Dietetic Association and American Diabetes Association and Greater New York State Dietetic Association
Indu has received several awards form Federation of Indian Association in NY, NJ and Ct for helping and organizing India Day Parade in NY
She is recipient of awards for community services and Nutrition Affairs from Council woman Dorothy Goosby in 2001.
Indu received several Citations from Nassau County legislature and New York State for outstanding Community services. In May 2008 Indu received a New York City Council Citation for her exemplary services to the community.

Indu has been instrumental in initiating senior citizen and youth programs in Hicksville with the co operation from Nassau County administration.
Indu received THE WOMEN OF DISTINCTION AWARD 2006 from Nassau county office of Minority affairs and County executive Thomas R Suozzi.
HINDU CENTER in NY presented an award for outstanding Community Services to Indu Jaiswal in March 2006.

Indu also received special awards from Mayors of Sonsonate City and San Salvador city for participation with Friends for Good Health, initiating and organizing Medical Camp and providing free medical services to needy people in Salvador in Central America in February 2011

She has served on the committee for Newsday Newspaper in selecting every day hero in tri state area, helped in the publication of India and Pakistani Foods Journal published by American Dietetic Association, helped with publication of Nutrition information journal published by AAPI. Indu was invited to speak and make presentation on Nutrition and Heart disease at Medicine in the Millennium seminar held in Calcutta, India in year 2000
As a registered dietitian she has been organizing health fairs, speaks at senior and youth groups, and makes presentations on radio and TV programs on Healthy Lifestyles and Nutrition related topics.
Indu lives in Garden City long Island with her husband Sudhir Jaiswal who is a systems specialist. They have twin sons Niten married to Rashi and Riten married to Michele. Recently blessed with four grandchildren Mia, Aman, Kieran and Riaan.
